Grasping the nettle on Scope 3

Emitwise at the Scope 3 Strategy Days 2025

The Scope 3 Strategy Days, hosted by the Scope 3 Peer Group, in London this January marked a major step forward in the journey towards decarbonising supply chains.

Following the success of last year’s S3PG Conference, this year’s event was bigger and more action-oriented—bringing together leading sustainability and procurement professionals to tackle the toughest challenges in Scope 3.

We had the opportunity to host a networking drinks session, engaging directly with procurement practitioners driving change from within their organisations. Additionally, we attended a workshop on supplier engagement and hosted a session generative AI, exploring how to scale impact, foster collaboration, and harness technology to accelerate decarbonisation efforts.

Mat Langley, Strategic Adviser at Emitwise, shared his key insights from the event:

  • Deeper discussions, clearer progress: From decarbonising heat to PCFs and supplier training, this year’s sessions reflected real momentum from industry leaders like CBRE, Unilever and Pepsi.

  • 2025 focus: Align, act, and accelerate – The path forward is clear:
    • Align business strategy with climate goals
    • Highlight success and scale progress
    • Prioritise and incentivise supplier action
    • Invest in technology and integrate data across procurement processes (sourcing, purchasing, supplier management, reporting, and risk)

  • The insights from Gartner and the S3PG survey were clear:
    • Clarity over claims – Differentiate rather than overpromise
    • Data transparency – Build trust through methodology and sources
    • Interoperability – Enable data sharing, follow standards, and reduce supplier burden

The momentum is real, and the mission is urgent. The focus now shifts to execution: aligning stakeholders, embedding sustainability into procurement, and ensuring that data flows seamlessly to drive measurable impact.
